A U.S. warplane hit and eliminated an Iranian anti-aircraft missile battery positioned on Qeshm Island in the Strait of Hormuz on Monday.
American officials stated that the military carried out the mission defensively after Revolutionary Guard units fired a missile toward a U.S. plane. Officials described the engagement as a contained response instead of a return to broad conflict with Tehran.
The action belongs to a discreet, multi-week campaign of precision U.S. missions aimed at deterring Tehran from disrupting commercial shipping across the strait. Successive detonations were heard late Monday across the island and in the nearby coastal city of Bandar Lengeh.
The Defense Department referred questions to U.S. Central Command, which offered no comment. Whether Iranian personnel suffered casualties remains not yet known.
Continued Diplomatic Path
President Donald Trump said Monday that Washington is not presently engaged in war with Iran and answered "No" when asked if he intended to launch strikes after the midterm elections. "We had a war with Iran. We won. I don't know if you even call it a war because we haven't been doing any fighting for months," Trump said.
Vice President JD Vance reported productive discussions between U.S. and Iranian negotiators, voicing hope for a diplomatic pact that would prevent Iran from rebuilding destroyed nuclear sites.
