Massive protests against the escalating housing crisis have taken place across several Spanish cities, resulting in clashes in Valencia that left nine National Police officers injured.
Tens of thousands rally in Madrid
According to Spanish media reports, approximately 70,000 people took to the streets in the capital, Madrid. Demonstrators marched toward the central square where the Madrid City Hall is located, demanding government action against soaring rent and real estate costs.
Clashes and injuries in Valencia
In Valencia, a demonstration organized by four civic groups began in the morning at the historic Porta de la Mar gates. Protesters marched toward the City of Arts and Sciences (Palau de les Arts), where the “Valencia Real Estate Summit 2026” was underway with real estate, investment, and business professionals.
The march concluded in confrontations between demonstrators and law enforcement officers. Police deployed force to disperse the crowd, and clashes at the end of the demonstration resulted in injuries to nine National Police officers.
