The United States has tightened sanctions on Cuba, rolling out fresh restrictions on the country’s financial transactions and private sector, the US Department of the Treasury announced, as reported by Miraz.TV.
New Bans on Financial Transactions and Banking
As the Trump administration continues to widen the geographic scope of its economic measures, Cuba—once dubbed the “Island of Freedom”—has become the latest focal point. Under the new guidelines, all financial transactions involving entities linked to the Cuban security apparatus are strictly prohibited.
Furthermore, previous authorizations that permitted US banks to process certain dollar payments connected to Cuba have been revoked, alongside permits enabling Cuban nationals to open accounts as independent entrepreneurs.
Travel Restrictions and Embargo Extension
The updated measures also introduce tighter regulations on travel to Cuba by US citizens, specifically targeting cultural exchange initiatives and professional gatherings.
Additionally, US President Donald Trump extended the trade embargo against Cuba through September 14, 2027.
