Senator Chris Murphy was admitted to Johns Hopkins in Maryland after experiencing a stroke on Saturday afternoon while attending his son's hockey game.

Murphy sought medical attention at a local facility after developing numbness in his arm during the game, where doctors identified the stroke. His team subsequently transferred him to Johns Hopkins for specialized treatment and ongoing observation. Chief of staff Allison Herwitt said Murphy is awake, alert, and responding positively to care, noting that his physicians are satisfied with his progress and that his office anticipates a full recovery.

The medical event forced the cancellation of Murphy's scheduled Sunday campaign stop in New Hampshire with Representative Chris Pappas. The 53-year-old senator, who entered the Senate after the 2012 election and is not on the ballot in Tuesday's midterm elections, had previously traveled to Michigan, Minnesota, and Florida for campaign events. Following the announcement, colleagues from both parties offered support, with Senator John Fetterman wishing him a rapid recuperation and Republican Senators Chuck Grassley and Pete Ricketts offering prayers.
