The US embassy in Israel warns Americans in the region of a high risk that the security situation will deteriorate sharply.
What the embassy advises: flight and transport risks
Miraz.TV reports that a notice published on the diplomatic mission’s website recommends maximum caution over the likelihood of mass flight cancellations, airspace closures and serious disruption to transport infrastructure.
The warning is directly linked to tension in Yemen
The warning is directly tied to the worsening situation in Yemen. The Iran-backed “Ansar Allah” (Houthi) movement continues its armed confrontation with Yemen’s official authorities and the Saudi-led coalition. What particularly worries the Americans is that at the current stage strikes are being directed at civilian airports and critical infrastructure, which creates the danger of a rapid and sharp escalation of military operations.
Diplomatic missions have not changed their operating mode
Despite the warnings, the US embassy in Jerusalem and the consular section in Tel Aviv stressed that the diplomatic missions continue to operate under their staff regime and provide citizens with the full range of consular services.
Timeline of the conflict in Yemen
It is worth noting that the armed conflict in Yemen between the Houthis and government forces backed by Riyadh has continued since August 2014. This year the situation has taken a sharper turn.
July: naval blockade and attacks on oil tankers
In July, the rebels declared a naval blockade on Saudi Arabia and attacked several oil tankers.
August-September: advances toward Mocha and Bab al-Mandab
In early August, “Ansar Allah” launched an offensive in the country’s southwest, and on September 10-11 it took control of the strategically important port city of Mocha and areas adjacent to the Bab al-Mandab strait.
September 28: declaration of general mobilization
On September 28, Yemen’s internationally recognized government declared a general mobilization to fight the Houthis.
