During a White House meeting with Chinese President Xi Jinping, US President Donald Trump advocated holding trilateral arms control talks that would include Russia.
According to an official statement released on the White House website, the US leader presented the initiative directly during bilateral discussions.
“The President proposed holding trilateral arms control negotiations between the United States, Russia, and China,” the statement noted.
Xi Jinping’s Official Visit to the United States
Chinese President Xi Jinping paid a state visit to the United States on September 24–25. During the visit, the Chinese leader held talks with President Donald Trump and other senior White House officials.
Given the intense strategic rivalry and strained relations between the two global powers, the visit drew widespread attention and mixed reactions across the international community.
Previous Diplomatic Proposals
Earlier, the US President had called on Ukrainian leader Volodymyr Zelenskyy to travel to Moscow for direct negotiations with Russian President Vladimir Putin. However, Zelenskyy rejected the proposal, and sources indicated that the suggestion caused dissatisfaction on the Ukrainian side.
