President Donald Trump outlined a new Trump Israel-Hamas peace plan in a letter to hostage families, as negotiators from Israel and Hamas met in Egypt and reportedly agreed to most first-phase terms.
Trump Pledges Hostage Release, Hamas Destruction
In a letter sent to the Hostages and Missing Families Forum, President Trump vowed to secure the return of all hostages taken during the October 7, 2023, massacre and ensure the destruction of Hamas.
“I have been resolved to returning all the hostages home, and ensuring the total destruction of Hamas so these horrific acts may never be repeated,” Trump wrote. He added that the “unspeakable scenes have been seared into our memories, and we will never forget.“
The president’s message, which serves as the `Trump letter to Hostages and Missing Families Forum`, also acknowledged the families’ continued advocacy. “My entire administration has been touched by the fact that, through the unimaginable pain and suffering… you have continued telling their stories and advocating on their behalf,” Trump stated.
Hostage Forum Praises President’s Efforts
The Hostages and Missing Families Forum responded by issuing a letter to the Norwegian Nobel Committee, praising Trump’s actions. The forum wrote that his efforts brought them to a turning point.
“President Trump’s determination to bring peace made possible what many said was impossible,” the letter stated. “From the moment of his inauguration, he brought us light through our darkest times.“
The group expressed its faith that Trump will see the conflict through to a peaceful resolution. “We are confident that he will not rest until the last hostage is brought home, the war has ended, and peace and prosperity are restored,” the forum’s letter continued.
Details of the Trump Israel-Hamas Peace Plan
As part of his diplomatic push, Trump urged negotiators involved in indirect talks to “move fast” on a resolution. He also called on Israel to “immediately stop the bombing of Gaza.“
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu accepted the 20-point plan last month. Hamas has stated it is ready to release hostages but has not yet given a definitive answer on the proposed `Benjamin Netanyahu Hamas agreement`.
Gaza Ceasefire Negotiations Advance in Egypt
Chief negotiators from Israel and Hamas met in Egypt on Tuesday to continue the `Gaza ceasefire negotiations`. These talks are focused on finalizing the terms of the president’s plan.
An Egyptian official reported that both sides have agreed on most terms of the `Israel hostage release first phase`, which includes the release of hostages and a ceasefire.
Secretary of State Marco Rubio called the progress “a historic opportunity to close this dark chapter, and to build a foundation for lasting peace and security for all.“
