U.S. President Donald Trump announced an energy truce between Ukraine and Russia on October 11, aimed at halting strikes on critical energy infrastructure. The White House leader shared the announcement on his Truth Social platform.
Trump’s Statement and Terms of the Agreement
The U.S. President stated that both warring sides had agreed to the terms:
“As of this moment, an ‘Energy Truce’ in the War between Russia and Ukraine is in effect. Both sides have agreed. Do not violate it!”
Background of the Truce Negotiations
During his visit to the United States in September, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy presented Trump with a proposal for an energy-sector ceasefire. The Ukrainian side expressed readiness to adopt the measure on the condition that attacks on energy, water supply, and heating networks would cease.
Although Russia initially rejected the initiative, Western media and analytical experts reported that Moscow indicated during backchannel talks a willingness to negotiate an energy truce in exchange for conditions such as sanctions relief.
