The response to the law was swift. The Indian Ministry of External Affairs has formally protested the House of Representatives’ decision.
“New Delhi” reports that the Indian Foreign Ministry stated the country will continue to purchase oil from diverse sources based on market conditions and will take all necessary measures to protect its economic interests.
Impact on Trade Negotiations
As the world’s third-largest oil importer, India remains a primary buyer of Russian oil. Analysts suggest that the prospect of these new tariffs could complicate trade negotiations between the two nations and potentially delay the conclusion of pending agreements.
