Eighty people, including 21 minors, have sought medical treatment following a mass poisoning incident at the Volchye Vorota hotel complex in Russia’s Stavropol region. Authorities have launched a criminal investigation into the outbreak, which has been linked to contaminated food. While most affected individuals received outpatient care, six people remain hospitalized as officials work to address the public health crisis.
What caused the mass poisoning?
Preliminary investigations by the Investigative Committee and Rospotrebnadzor have identified a salmonella pathogen as the source of the illness. The bacteria were detected in food products that had undergone culinary processing at the Volchye Vorota hotel complex. Officials have since inspected the facility's kitchen and seized samples to determine the full extent of the sanitary violations that led to the outbreak among guests.
Investigation and current status
A criminal case has been opened regarding the violation of sanitary and epidemiological rules at the resort. While 80 people sought medical assistance, only six individuals required hospitalization, and none of the hospitalized patients are minors. Authorities continue to monitor the situation in the Novoselitsky district as they conduct further inspections to ensure the safety of the facility and prevent further health risks to the public.
