Raging California wildfires have swept through historical landmarks and residential communities across the southern part of the state, engulfing a renowned villa in San Clemente where Soviet leader Leonid Brezhnev and U.S. President Richard Nixon once signed an agreement to prevent nuclear war.
Rapid Spread and Mandatory Evacuations
Fire crews face severe hurdles as unseasonably hot, dry weather and wind gusts reaching 110 kilometers per hour accelerate the flames across coastal terrain.
In San Clemente and San Juan Capistrano, at least six private residences have been reduced to ashes. With conditions deteriorating rapidly, authorities issued urgent evacuation orders for approximately 16,000 residents.
Thousands of Malibu Mansions at Risk
The disaster also threatens luxury neighborhoods across Malibu, putting more than 7,000 high-end properties in immediate danger. Among the estates located directly in the path of the disaster are residences belonging to music icons Jay-Z and Beyoncé.
