The Los Angeles Dodgers won World Series Game 3 on a Freddie Freeman walk-off home run, defeating the Toronto Blue Jays 6-5 in a record-tying 18-inning marathon.
Freeman’s solo shot concluded the contest, which tied the record for the longest World Series game in history. The first baseman became the first player in MLB Postseason history to hit multiple walk-off home runs in the World Series, with his previous one coming against the New York Yankees last year.
An Epic Conclusion to World Series Game 3
Shohei Ohtani also had a historic night, setting a Shohei Ohtani World Series record by reaching base safely nine times. He finished the game 4-for-4 with two home runs.
“I want to go to sleep as soon as possible so I can get ready,” Ohtani said. The two-way star is scheduled to pitch in Game 4 on Tuesday at 8 p.m.
ET.
Dodgers vs Blue Jays Highlights and Scoring
The Blue Jays took an early lead on a Teoscar Hernandez solo home run in the second inning off starter Max Scherzer. Alejandro Kirk later hit a three-run homer in the fourth, scoring Vladimir Guerrero Jr. and Bo Bichette.
Los Angeles tied the game in the bottom of the fifth with an RBI double from Ohtani and an RBI single from Freeman. Bo Bichette’s RBI single gave Toronto the lead back before Ohtani’s second homer in the seventh inning tied the score at 5-5.
Key Pitching and Defensive Plays
Dodgers reliever Will Klein was crucial in the extra innings, pitching four scoreless frames. He threw 72 pitches and recorded five strikeouts to keep his team in the game.
Toronto’s efforts were hampered by risky baserunning decisions that resulted in key outs. Freeman had a previous chance to win the game in the 13th inning with the bases loaded, but the ball was caught.
