The incident occurred before a pivotal divisional game. “That morning at the team hotel in Marina del Rey, Jones told teammates he was on his balcony when he looked out at the water and saw a floating dead body,” according to a reported statement.
Players witnessed the aftermath of the discovery as they prepared to depart for the stadium. “Someone called the police. As the 49ers loaded buses for the stadium, players watched investigators and even a coroner’s van pull into the marina,” the report continued.
Jones Leads 49ers in Overtime Thriller
Starting in place of the injured Brock Purdy, Jones delivered a strong performance despite the morning’s events. He completed 33 of his 49 pass attempts for 342 yards.
Jones threw two touchdown passes in the game.
His touchdown passes went to tight end Jake Tonges and running back Christian McCaffrey. The performance helped the 49ers improve their record to 4-1 on the season.
