The U. S. open issued a $42,500 Daniil Medvedev US Open fine on Wednesday for an outburst during his first-round match, which included unsportsmanlike conduct and racket abuse against Benjamin Bonzi.
Details of the On-Court Outburst
The incident occurred Sunday at Louis Armstrong Stadium during the third set of the match. The Daniil Medvedev outburst vs Benjamin Bonzi began after a photographer walked onto the court, leading to a heated Greg Allensworth umpire dispute.
Allensworth awarded Bonzi another first serve, which Medvedev strongly contested.
Medvedev received boos from the crowd for his behavior and responded by blowing kisses to the fans. Despite the disruption, he went on to win the point and the set, but ultimately lost the five-set match.

Medvedev Post-Match Interview Comments
Following the match, Medvedev acknowledged that he expected a significant penalty for his actions. “I’m getting big fine enough, so if I speak I’m in big trouble, so I’m not going to speak,” he said.
Medvedev also sarcastically thanked the crowd, a move reminiscent of a previous outburst at the 2019 U.S. open. “Thank you all, guys, because your energy tonight gave me the win,” he stated.
I want all you to know when you sleep tonight, I won today because of you.”
