The Tennessee Titans fired head coach Brian Callahan on Monday following a 1-5 start to the 2025 season. The organization announced the change, citing a lack of sufficient team growth.

Chad Brinker Titans Statement on Firing

Team President of Football Operations Chad Brinker confirmed the decision in a formal announcement. “After extended conversations with our owner and general manager, we met with Brian Callahan this morning to tell him we are making a change at head coach,” Brinker said.

These decisions are never easy, and they become more difficult when they involve people of great character,” Brinker continued. “We are grateful for Brian’s investment in the Titans and Tennessee community during his tenure as head coach.

Why Was Brian Callahan Fired?

The move follows the Titans’ most recent loss to the Las Vegas Raiders on Sunday. The team’s only victory this year came in Week 5 against the Arizona Cardinals.

Brinker addressed the reasoning behind the mid-season change, which signals a continued Tennessee Titans rebuild. “While we are committed to a patient and strategic plan to build a sustainable, winning football program, we have not demonstrated sufficient growth,” he stated.

Callahan’s Record and Background

Callahan’s overall record with the Titans was 4-19 in 23 games. He was hired after the team moved on from former head coach Mike Vrabel.

Before his role in Tennessee, Callahan served as the offensive coordinator for the Cincinnati Bengals from 2019 to 2023. Under his guidance, the Joe Burrow-led Bengals reached the Super Bowl during the 2021 season.

Looking Ahead for Tennessee

The Titans’ next game is in Week 7. In a notable matchup, they will face their former coach, as Mike Vrabel and the New England Patriots currently hold a 4-2 record.
