US President Donald Trump stated outside the White House that US intelligence sharing with Ukraine is continuing, emphasizing that Washington is actively engaging with both parties to resolve the ongoing conflict.
Conflicting Reports Over Intelligence Sharing
Earlier, CNN reported warnings from the Pentagon and the US State Department that intelligence sharing with Kyiv could be suspended. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy had also confirmed on Tuesday night that Western partners had stopped providing Kyiv with intelligence regarding Russian missile launches. However, Trump publicly reaffirmed that the flow of intelligence to Kyiv remains active as part of broader diplomatic efforts.
The Proposed Energy Truce
Trump also announced on October 11 via his Truth Social platform an initiative for an “energy truce” aimed at halting strikes on critical energy infrastructure between Ukraine and Russia.
During his visit to the United States last month, Zelenskyy had presented Trump with a proposal for an energy ceasefire, indicating that Ukraine was ready to accept a mutual cessation of strikes targeting power, water supply, and heating networks. Although Russia initially rejected the proposal, Western media and analytical sources indicated that Moscow had signaled readiness in backchannel discussions to negotiate an energy truce in exchange for sanctions relief.
Kyiv’s Response and Diplomatic Momentum
Following Trump’s latest announcement, Moscow has not issued an official comment on the energy truce. Meanwhile, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy told Axios that Trump’s public announcement regarding the halt of strikes on energy facilities came as news to him.
Nevertheless, Zelenskyy stressed that if Russia agrees to stop attacking energy infrastructure, Ukraine is prepared to take reciprocal measures and abide by the energy truce. The Ukrainian leader underlined that if Trump reached an understanding with Russian President Vladimir Putin, Kyiv must be informed of the exact date and time the ceasefire takes effect.
The announcement follows a phone conversation between Putin and Trump last week that focused heavily on prospects for resolving the Ukrainian crisis, suggesting that recent proposals are linked directly to these bilateral communications.
