President Donald Trump announced on Tuesday that United States foreign assistance to Israel will terminate at the end of the year, stating that the country's strong economy allows it to buy its own military hardware.
Speaking during a morning television broadcast on Nov. 3, 2026, Trump stated that the annual allocation of $4 billion will halt as the year concludes. "We were giving them $4 billion – we are – but it gets cut off at the end of the year," Trump said. He described the American support package as comprising money, items, military aid, cash, or barter.
Trump noted that he and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu discussed ending the funding over several years, adding that Netanyahu originally proposed the change. "They don’t need it. Israel is a very thriving country," Trump said.
The existing bilateral security agreement between the United States and Israel provides about $3.8 billion annually through 2028. Netanyahu has previously stated an intention to reduce Israeli reliance on American military funding, though specific terms and timelines for adjusting the active agreement have not been detailed.
