Rapper Nicki Minaj thanked Donald Trump for highlighting the Nigeria Christian persecution issue after he pledged to designate the nation a “country of particular concern” for severe religious freedom violations.
On Friday, Trump posted on Truth Social that Christianity faces an “existential threat” in the country. He stated that “Radical Islamists are responsible for this mass slaughter” and that the United States is “ready, willing, and able to save our great Christian population around the world!“
Nicki Minaj Thanks Donald Trump
Nicki Minaj, who is open about her Christian faith, responded to the former president’s statement. “Reading this made me feel a deep sense of gratitude,” she wrote, emphasizing that “no group should ever be persecuted for practicing their religion.“
Minaj added her thanks to Trump and his team for “taking this seriously.” She encouraged followers to remember persecuted Christians in their prayers.
Trump Vows Action on Nigeria Christian Persecution
The situation for Christians in Nigeria has been described as dire, with Islamist groups burning entire villages and murdering worshippers. According to some estimates, between 4,000 and 8,000 Christians are killed annually in the country.
“This has been going on for years — from ISWAP to Islamist Fulani ethnic militias — and the Nigerian government has to be much more proactive,” said Mark Walker, Trump’s ambassador-designate for International Religious Freedom.
Nigeria Country of Particular Concern Designation
President Trump announced he would redesignate Nigeria a “country of particular concern” (CPC). This designation, defined by the 1998 International Religious Freedom Act, is for nations that have engaged in or tolerated “systematic, ongoing, and egregious violations of religious freedom.“
The House Appropriations Committee called the move a “critical step in mobilizing leadership and attention to confront evil extremism.” The committee stated that Nigeria is “the most dangerous nation on Earth to follow Christ.“
Lawmakers Directed to Investigate Violations
Trump has directed Rep. Riley Moore, Rep.
Tom Cole, and other members of the House Appropriations Committee to investigate the religious freedom violations Nigeria is experiencing. The committee will report its findings directly to him.
The committee noted that once the government shutdown is over, its members will “continue moving full-year appropriations across the finish line to uphold your priorities.“
