International Chefs Day is celebrated globally on October 20. The occasion aims to promote national cuisines, preserve culinary traditions, and bring focused attention to the advancement of the culinary arts.
Establishment of International Chefs Day
International Chefs Day was established in 2004 following an initiative by the World Association of Chefs’ Societies (WACS). Celebrated every year on October 20, the day plays a significant role in showcasing gastronomic cultures across diverse nations and fostering professional exchange.
Azerbaijani Cuisine and International Achievements
Azerbaijan has celebrated International Chefs Day since 2007. The country’s national cuisine is distinguished by its wide variety of dishes, specialized cooking techniques, and unique regional nuances. Plov, dolma, dushbara, piti, qutab, and a rich assortment of pastries are among the most celebrated pillars of Azerbaijani gastronomy.
The Azerbaijan National Culinary Center plays a vital role in preserving national culinary traditions and promoting them on the international stage. Founded in 1991, the center has been a member of the World Association of Chefs’ Societies since 1992.
Azerbaijani culinary professionals have consistently represented the nation in international competitions. At the 1993 World Culinary Championship held in Malta, the Azerbaijani national team claimed a gold medal.
Preserving Cultural Heritage and Advancing Tourism
International Chefs Day underscores the importance of passing culinary heritage down to future generations, raising awareness about traditional dishes, and safeguarding gastronomy as an essential part of cultural identity. Promoting Azerbaijani cuisine internationally also contributes directly to highlighting the country’s broader culture and growing tourism appeal.
