The management committee of Weil, Gotshal & Manges recommended on October 28 that partners approve an orderly wind-down of the firm's operations.
"Following a careful review of strategic alternatives, the Firm's Management Committee has recommended to the partnership that the Firm pursue an orderly wind-down," the firm said in a statement.
The liquidation proposal follows partner departures and the reported end of merger discussions with Willkie Farr & Gallagher days earlier. The firm's partners are scheduled to vote on the proposed dissolution in the coming days.
Weil employs approximately 1,200 attorneys and generated reported multinational gross revenue exceeding $2 billion in 2025.
Client Transitions and Historic Dockets

The firm operated on Wall Street for more than 90 years. During its history, it managed prominent corporate restructuring proceedings, including bankruptcy cases for Lehman Brothers, General Motors, and Enron.
