On July 10, 2026, the Baku Court of Appeal continued hearings for Armenian citizens, including Arayik Harutyunyan and Bako Sahakyan, convicted of war crimes. During the session, defense lawyers requested acquittals for their clients, while the defendants maintained their innocence regarding the charges brought by the Baku Military Court.

What happened at the latest court hearing?

The session, chaired by Judge Elmar Rahimov, focused on defense statements for individuals convicted of war crimes and other offenses. Defendants Arkadi Ghukasyan, Vasili Beglaryan, and Bako Sahakyan maintained their innocence. Defense counsel formally requested that the court overturn the February 5, 2026, verdict and acquit their clients. The court has scheduled the next session for July 14.

The convicted individuals, including Arayik Harutyunyan and Levon Mnatsakanyan, were sentenced to prison terms earlier this year. The ongoing appeal process allows the parties to challenge the initial verdicts. The court ensures all defendants are provided with legal counsel and interpreters in their preferred languages throughout the judicial process.
