How much land has been cleared of mines?
Azerbaijan has successfully cleared 300,000 hectares of land in its liberated territories to date, according to the Mine Action Agency of the Republic of Azerbaijan (ANAMA). This humanitarian demining effort has resulted in the destruction of 43,000 landmines and over 24,000 other explosive devices, significantly improving safety for the region.
The announcement was made during the 4th International Mine Action Conference in Baku. More than 4,500 employees are currently involved in these operations, which include both the physical removal of hazards and public awareness campaigns regarding the dangers of explosive remnants.
What are the annual demining targets?
ANAMA has set an annual target of clearing 65,000 hectares of land. For the current year, the agency has already cleared approximately 50,000 hectares. These efforts remain a critical priority for the government as it works to mitigate the long-term risks posed by mines and explosive devices in the liberated territories.
