U.S. Secretary of War Pete Hegseth led 3,068 participants in Annapolis, Maryland, on Saturday to set a new Navy pushup world record during the Navy vs. Air Force football game.

Hegseth Leads New Guinness Pushup Record

The successful attempt established a new Guinness World Record for the most people doing pushups simultaneously for one minute. This new milestone, part of the Pete Hegseth pushup record event, surpassed the previous record of 2,926 people.

The prior record was set on April 20, 2023, by the Air Force Academy in Colorado Springs, Colorado. The new achievement was officially certified by Guinness World Records representatives at the game.

In the football game, Navy defeated Air Force in a close contest. The final Navy Air Force game score was 34-31, advancing Navy’s season record to an undefeated 5-0.

Following the game and record-setting event, Hegseth joined the Navy team for postgame celebrations. He also delivered a speech to the players in the locker room.

Win Boosts Hopes for Top Trophy

The victory significantly improves Navy’s chances of winning this year’s Commander-in-Chief’s trophy. This award is given annually to the winner of the competition between the Navy, Air Force, and Army service academies.

Navy can now clinch the trophy with a win in the annual Army-Navy game. The decisive matchup is scheduled to take place on Dec. 13.

Earlier on Saturday, Hegseth dismissed the navy chief of staff, Jon Harrison. Harrison had been appointed to the position in January.
