Israel’s Security Cabinet has authorized the next phase of military operations against Hamas, approving a plan to occupy the Gaza Strip.

The new stage of the conflict, named “Operation Gideon’s Chariots,” will center on escalating strikes in Gaza City.

Lieutenant General Eyal Zamir, the Chief of the General Staff for the Israel Defense Forces, announced the development on Sunday. The decision was confirmed by Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s government.

As part of the operation, the cabinet has also sanctioned the call-up of more than 400,000 military reservists. This mobilization has been approved to continue until November 30.

Strategic Aims and Regional Context

The stated objectives of the operation are to secure the “decisive defeat of Hamas” and ensure the return of all hostages held by the group.

Defense Minister Israel Katz emphasized that the mission is also designed to fundamentally reshape the security landscape for the long term.

This strategy is framed as part of a wider campaign against a hostile “axis” of regional powers, with a primary focus on countering Iran.

The government’s plan addresses security threats perceived to originate not only from Gaza but also from other areas, including Iran, Yemen, Lebanon, and Judea and Samaria.

Leadership Endorses Expanded Military Action

The approval from key leaders, including Prime Minister Netanyahu and the Security Cabinet, marks a significant escalation after nearly two consecutive years of conflict.

The large-scale mobilization of IDF reservists underscores the scope of the planned ground and air operations in the Gaza Strip.

By implementing “Operation Gideon’s Chariots,” Israeli leadership aims to establish a new security reality and neutralize threats from Hamas and its regional allies.

The military will now proceed with enhanced operations in Gaza City under this new authorization.
